Odin x Cider Puppies

Chapter IX: The Seventh Week
(Day 43- Day 49)

(Day Forty Nine)

7 weeks old! I can't believe how quickly things have gone. The first 3 weeks of this litter were really tough but as soon as they started on solid food, they have been a piece of cake. I love the fact that they have integrated so well into my pack. They have gotten a lot more dog to dog interaction than my last litter as a result. Cider has been better this time around about correcting them when they are chewing on her. I think she learned from her mistakes with Coda. Even Coda has been good at letting them know that they are not allowed to bite his tail or suck on his private parts. Murphy has gone nose to nose with them several times although he runs away if they make a move to play. He tends to stay away although it's tough because they are EVERYWHERE fast. They are really good puppies and basically spend a majority of the day hanging out with us whereever we are and I don't think we've had an accident in living room in 5-6 days. Of course, as soon as I write this, I'm sure one of them will pee on the carpet.

I have to say though that the big dogs have really made it very easy for the puppies to just hang out. They have been generally quite good about remaining in a down when the puppies are roaming and playing. I have been WANTING to get a picture of the 3 big dogs and the 2 puppies passed out in the kitchen but every time I make a move for the camera, one of them stands up. Oh well!

I'm slacking a bit on the leash training but the crate training is going well. They whine a bit but no screaming tantrums. They have started to be really good about keeping the pen clean too. I woke up this morning after 8 hours with no poop in the pen at all which is a first. I took them outside and they did their business. I was VERY happy about that! Canon is quite a bit better at going as soon as he is let out. Chloe takes a bit longer but she eventually goes.

We brought out the ball pit and set it out in the living room since it is way too hot to have them play outdoors for more than a few minutes at a time. It didn't work as well as the first litter. They thought it was more fun to play fight through the mesh and could not care less about the balls. I think that's something we need to introduce earlier because it turned out to be a big disaster with them tipping it over every few minutes. I guess it's the exposure that counts....
